Light and electron microscope studies of organs and tissues of the New Zealand Black (NZB/BL) strain mice with lymphoid leukemia and autoimmune disease.

چکیده
Light microscope studies of organs and tissues of 10to 12month-old leukemic NZB/BL strain mice revealed changes characteristic of lymphoid leukemia and autoimmune disease. Electron microscope studies of ultrathin sections of lymph nodes, spleen, liver, bone marrow, thymus gland, kidneys, and lungs of the same leukemic mice demonstrated immature and mature murine leukemia virus particles of the so-called Type C. These studies also revealed developmental stages of the leukemia Type C particles in various leukemic and nonleukemic cells and in parenchymatous cells of the liver and kidneys of the leukemic mice. Similar virus particles were also found in organs with changes characteristic of autoimmune disease, such as liver necrosis, lupus erythematosus lesions of the glomeruli, and fibrinoid changes in the blood vessels of the spleen of leukemic mice. The kidneys and liver of the examined mice appeared to contain a large number of virus particles regardless of infiltra tion by leukemic cells. Similar organs from 1to 3-month-old apparently normal mice oÃ-the NZB/BL strain were also found to contain murine leukemia Type C particles and budding of virus particles from plasma membrane of cells. On histologie examination, changes indicative of autoimmune disease were found in organs of 3-month-old but not in organs of 1-month-old mice.

Abnormal microRNA-16 locus with synteny to human 13q14 linked to CLL in NZB mice.
New Zealand black (NZB) mice with autoimmune and B lymphoproliferative disease (B-LPD) are a model for human chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). A genomewide linkage scan of the NZB loci associated with lymphoma was conducted in F1 backcrosses of NZB and a control strain, DBA/2. Of 202 mice phenotyped for the presence or absence of LPD, surface maker expression, DNA content, and microsatellite ...

Two substrains of New Zealand Black (NZB) mice have been compared with respect to expression of a maternally transmitted cell surface antigen, Mta, defined by cloned cytolytic T cells, and for restriction enzyme polymorphisms of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA). These independent assays of maternal cytoplasmic inheritance provide strong evidence for genetic contamination of the NZB/BlPt substrain (NZB...
متن کاملChromosomal abnormalities in spleens of New Zealand black mice, a strain characterized by autoimmunity and malignancy.
Mosaicism of normal and chromosomally aberrant cells was detected in 14 of 20 spleens from adult New Zealand Black (NZB) mice reared under conventional conditions, a strain that spontaneously develops autoimmunity and lymphoreticular malignancy. No abnormalities were found in marrows from these same animals or in spleens from NZB mice younger than 3 months. The prevalence of chromosomal aberrat...

A filtrable agent separable from transplantable malignant lymphomas of NZB/Bl mice was capable, upon inoculation into preweanling NZB/Bl mice, of inducing lymphoid cell hyperplasia, hypergammaglobulinemia, proteinuria, hypoalbuminemia, and pathological changes (focal membranous glomerulonephritis) of kidneys-renal functional and structural changes qualitatively similar to those of spontaneous o...
متن کاملPathogenesis of Thymic Changes in Nzb Mice with Hemolytic Anemia
Lymphoid follicles evolve in the perivascular connective tissue of many organs, including the thymuses, in NZB/Bl mice with hemolytic anemia. In previously published studies, these thymic follicles have been held to be causal in the autoimmune genesis of the hemolytic anemia. The present study contradicts this interpretation by demonstrating: (a) lymphoid follicles develop in the perivascular c...
